The layers of clay imply superficial decoration but because they are each carved out of a single slab of clay it begs the question – at what point do cultural norms become genetic? The brass studs seem to be holding the layers together like societal rules but do they become redundant once genetics take over? Is our evolution now being directed by societal laws rather than by nature?
